The objectives of marine safety investigation are two.  One is to identify the causes of the accident and learn what mistakes were made (lesson learnt) and from that adopt measures to avoid same mistakes reoccur in the future.

The second is to investigate if there were any human error or failure in the equipment, machinery, or in the legislation.
